Eminent Person visits the g7+ European Lisbon to strengthen the g7+ work globally amid COVID-19 Pandemic.
His Excellency, Eminent Person of the g7+, Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão, is conducting a working visit to Lisbon, Portugal from 29 November to 7 December 2021, within the scope of meeting with of Member States of the g7+ at its European Hub in Lisbon.
H.E. Xanana Gusmão, will lead the g7+ Senior Official Meeting with g7+ Member States on Tuesday, 30 November 2021 that will bring officials from Ministry of Finance, Planning and Ministry of Foreign Affairs to identify a way forward on how best to position the group internationally in the global debate on post pandemic recovery and pursuing peace and stability in fragile countries. The meeting is also an opportunity to discuss and agree the plan to host g7+ Head of State Summit in New York in the margin 77th UNGA 2022.
In the afternoon, the Eminent Person will continue the program with holding a Round Table Discussion with Ambassador and Development Partners, launch the Peace Cup and inaugurate the Study on Tourism in Fragile States, a collaboration between the g7+ European Hub and Estoril Higher Institute for Tourism and Hotel Studies (ESHTE).
In addition to participating in these initiatives, H.E. the Eminent Person of the g7+, Mr. Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão, will pay a courtesy visit to His Excellency the President of the Republic of Portugal, Prof. Dr. Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, accompanied by Dr. Helder da Costa, the General Secretary of the g7+ at the Presidential Palace in Belém.
Eminent Person of g7+, H.E. Xanana Gusmao, together with the Chair of g7+, H.E. Dr. Francis Mustapa Kai-Kai will also meet with the Mayor of Lisbon, Dr. Carlos Moedas, on December 2, 2021 and the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Dr. Francisco André, on December 3, 2021 to appreciate the support of the Government of Portugal for hosting the g7+ European Hub in Lisbon.
Furthermore, the g7+ Foundation in Lisbon is partnering with the Higher Institute of Social and Political Sciences (ISCSP-Ulisboa) to open the center for studies on Fragile Countries Affected by Conflict which the g7+ leadership will have the opportunity to inaugurate and hope this initiative will bring more visibility and awareness of the Fragile and Conflict Affected Countries in Portugal.
The following week, H.E. Francis Mustapha Kai-Kai will be accompanied by the Secretary General, Dr. Helder da Costa, submit the g7+ credentials to the Executive Secretary of the CPLP, Dr. Zacarias Albano to symbolize the formalization of Associate Observer Status of the intergovernmental organization g7+ for the Community of Portuguese Language Countries (CPLP).
The visit coincides with the launching of the “g7+ Women's Forum” with the theme: Promoting leadership and political participation for women that will take place on 29 November and co-chair by Ms. Abie Kamara, Focal Point from Sierra Leone and H.E. Satu Suikari-Kleven, Ambassador of the Government of Finland to Portugal. This forum will be held biannually with the focus on issues of women’s leadership and political participation that contribute to development and economic resilience.
On December 6th, Eminent Person, H.E Xanana Gusmao will give a public lecture, under the theme “State Building: Post-covid: Challenges and Opportunities”, at the invitation of the University of Coimbra. H.E. Francis Kai-kai will return to Freetown on 4 December 2021, while H.E Xanana Gusmao and delegation will depart from Lisbon on 7 December 2021 and arrive in Dili on 09 December 2021.
