The g7+ is pleased to inform that H.E. Dr. Francisco Guterres “Lu-Olo”,

President of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste has signed and ordered the publication of two g7+ Resolutions presented by the National Parliament (National Parliament Resolution No.3/2020) on “Headquarter Agreement between the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste and g7+” and the (National Parliament Resolution No. 4/2020) on the “Ratification of g7+ Charter” on 30 March 2020. These resolutions have been published in the official gazette last Wednesday, 22nd of April, 2020.

The ratification of g7+ Charter by RDTL together with other ratification instruments by Afghanistan and San Tome and Principe, as well as Sierra Leone (which is in the final stages of its internal ratification process), will enhance the g7+ efforts to register its Charter with the United Nations Treaty Division in New York.

Added to the recently attained Observer Status at the United Nations General Assembly, the g7+ (as an intergovernmental organization of 20 conflict-affected states) is now globally recognized as an institution with its legal identity. The Headquarters Agreement between the RDTL and the g7+, demonstrate Timor-Leste’s commitment (as host country) to support the g7+ on peacebuilding and state-building. The g7+ is also pleased to release the Statement of Solidarity and Cooperation, calling for concerted support in our efforts to curb COVID-19.

The g7+ commends the efforts of the VIII Constitutional Government in preventing Covid-19 amid these troubled times in Timor-Leste. As the g7+ marks its 10th Anniversary in April 2020, it presents its gratitude for the political, institutional, and financial support of the State of RDTL and partnership with various stakeholders to the work of the g7+, both at the country and the global level.

Timor-Leste’s exemplary leadership is highly appreciated by member states of g7+.
